How to Book
Reservations are made exclusively through our web site. If you wish to get in contact with us by phone, you can call us from 10 am to 15 pm, Monday to Friday. Telephone: 00 34 93 631 51 29. Once we get the filled booking form we will send you a tailored budget. Once you have agreed the budget, in order to secure your reservation, we require payment of 25% in advance. The rest must be paid no later than 8 weeks before the date.

Wat happens next
Once you have agreed the budget and we receive the deposit, we will send you the confirmation of your reservation so you can check everything is correct and that we have understood your needs. Then we will proceed to book your accommodation and to manage your reservation. If there are any problems, we will contact you. About 8 weeks before your holiday we will contact you to request the final payment. Once the payment has been made in full, we will send you your full holiday pack.

Can I book extra days or nights?
Yes, please use the form on the web site. Please tell us how many extra nights you want and we will send you a list of places to stay and complementary activities.

Do I need travel insurance?
Travel insurance is mandatory and must cover illness, injuries, personal belongings and cancellation. Make sure your policy covers your activity in nature and its associated risks.

Do i need personal insurance?
An obligatory condition for placing a booking is that you take out travel insurance to cover any illness or injury and personal effects. Make sure your policy covers outdoor activities and associated risks.

When are the holidays avalaible?
Our holidays are available all year round, with some exceptions detailed in the specific information for each activity.

Do i have to start my holidays on a certain day of the week?
You can start your holidays any day of the week.

Can i change the dates of my trip after booking?
Yes, if you want to change your reservation we will do our best to fit it on (subject to availability). Once the new reservation has been accepted, for future changes a rate of 25 € applies per person per night.

What happens if I want to cancel
If you have to cancel you holidays, please let us know as soon as possible. The cancellation of a reservation must be confirmed in writing (by sending a document by recorded post to the registered address of Hiking & History). Cancellation costs will be applied following this calendar:

  • Cancellation more than 56 days before the holidays start: 25% of the total cost with a minimum of €30 per person
  • Cancellation more than 21 days before the holidays start : 50% of the total.
  • Cancellation 14 days or less before the holidays start: 100% of the total.

Sorry, but no refund can be given for cancellation on the day the holiday starts or whilst on holiday. We recommend cancellation insurance to cover this eventuality.

What is a self-guided hike?
With self-guided hike we plan the accommodation, we provide your holiday pack and we offer some extra services. You organise your hike route by yourself, to suit you. You and your group are responsible for it.

What is a guided hike?
In guided hike, an official qualified guide will accompany you the entire route. The guide will be responsible for guiding you the entire route. Participants should follow the guide’s instructions at all times during the route.

Does the duration of each route include stops
No, the detailed times for the routes are approximate and calculated based on a normal-moderate pace. Stops and possible distractions must be foreseen.

How do I need to prepare myself physically for the holiday?
Your holidays will be active ones. We recommend a minimum of training before they begin so that you can get the most out of the experience. Good footwear is essential. If you have just bought it, we recommend you use it for a few days before starting your holidays.

Can I bring a pet?
Get in touch with us and we’ll look into it.

Can I get to the starting point of my holiday by public transport?
We will be pleased to offer advice and guidance so that you can plan your journey by public transport. If you wish we can offer from/to transfer service from your arrival/departure to the route start/finish.

Do I need to book any accommodation at the start of the trail the night before I start walking, or at the end after I’ve finished walking?
No, the holiday price includes accommodation the night before you start walking, and at the end of the holiday when you have finished.

What kind of accommodation is provided?
We offer a wide range of accommodation in mountain hotels, guest houses, hostels and holiday cottage-type establishments.In selecting our accommodation we look for friendly hosts, a good position close to the route and a private bathroom for each room (except in some cases).

What kind of breakfast is served?
The price for booking the hike includes a continental breakfast.

And what about lunch?
You provide your own lunch. However, if you wish we can prepare a packed lunch (picnic) for you to take with you.

Where can I get an evening meal?
You can choose where to have your evening meal, unless otherwise stated. Normally you can have it at the same place where you are staying overnight, and you will also be able to get information on good places nearby.

I’m vegetarian or follow a specific diet. Can you cater for this?
Yes. Vegetarian food is always available and the most restrictive diets can usually be catered for. If you have strict dietary needs, please let us know when you place your booking.

How do I pay for the holiday?
Payment is to be made by bank transfer only. A 25% deposit is payable when you book, followed by the remaining 75% 8 weeks before the start of your holiday.

When do I pay the remainder?
A week before the payment date (8 weeks before the start date of your holiday) we’ll send you an email about the second payment, reminding you of the final amount and the payment date. Once you have made your second payment we’ll send you your holiday pack.

Booking
Please use the form on the web site to book your activity. The first day of your holidays will normally be the day before the start of the activity. Please check all the options and make any suggestions, as this will help us to provide the best service.

Prices
Prices are per person and the services included in each activity are described. Prices do not include transport from home, parking, drinks and personal expenses, hotel extras, insurance or extra activities.

Deposit and final payment
When you book you will have to pay a deposit of 25%. The rest of the payment shall be made no later than 8 weeks before the holiday starts. For reservations that are made 8 weeks or less before the activity, payment must be made in full when booking. If you do not pay on time, Hiking & History reserves the right to cancel the reservation without having to refund any payments already made. Maps, guidebook and other information shall be sent once the final payment for the activity is made. Payments shall be made by bank transfer.

Your Holiday pack
Once we have received the total amount for the service you book ( 8 weeks before it starts), we will send you your holiday pack, which includes:

  • Route with information on the accommodation for each night, as well as baggage transfer
    •Directions and map to get to each place of accommodation
    •Travel log
    •A guide that describes the route in detail
    •Map of the entire route
    •Labels for your baggage (if you have booked the baggage transfer service)
    •Information on local services
    •List of equipment you need
    •GPS tracks

Guidebooks and maps
As part of the standard charge we will issue the following:

1 guidebook and 1 map for up to 4 people.
2 guidebooks and 2 maps for 5-7 people.
3 guidebooks and 3 maps for 8 people or more.

You may purchase extra copies from us at a discounted price.

Baggage transfer
If you book this service we will transfer one bag per person, up to a maximum weight of 14 kg. The baggage will be collected in the morning at the place you have stayed and you will find it at the next place you are staying overnight.

What do I have to take on the hike?

If you have arranged for luggage transfer, what you need is a small rucksack with items for your daily personal use: food, map, guide, camera, compass, outer clothing, drink and sun protection.

How do I get to the start of the holiday and back from the end?
We will provide you with information and guidance on how to get to the start of your holiday, but you will need to make the actual arrangements yourself. If desired, we can offer shuttle service from the airport or station to the starting point of the hike.

Can I travel with children?
All the activities are suitable for children. It is the parent or guardian’s responsibility to make sure they are fit enough and that they have all the equipment required for the activity.

Hiking & History is open all year round. Check dates and availability in the practical information for each activity.

Safety
For self-guided activities, minimum mountain experience is required. You are responsible for making sure that you and the rest of members in your group have sufficient knowledge, physical fitness and suitable equipment for the activity. If you have any questions, please get in contact with us. Some of the hike sections cross solitary areas that are exposed to the elements. You and your group are responsible for making sure that your group is safe (except if you have hired a guide). We do not accept anyone under 18 who is not accompanied by an adult. It is essential to follow signs, the weather forecast, local regulations and notices about the route, and to be careful and realistic with the duration of the trek.

Accommodation
We ensure the best accommodation conditions based on the agreed conditions. In some places, however, the type of accommodation is limited. In these cases we have to adapt to the existing accommodation

Cancellation or changes by Hiking & History
We reserve the right to change or cancel your holiday up to eight weeks before it starts. If it is cancelled, we will refund the amount paid to that moment, unless we can offer an alternative that suits your needs. If you do not agree with the changes or modifications, you have the right to refuse and ask for a refund. In this case you will not have the right to any extra compensation for damages. Hiking & History only decides to cancel, change or modify for reasons and circumstances that are beyond our control.

Guided hike
Hiking & History reserves the right to modify the activity  booked because of the weather, the condition of the participants or any other cause beyond the control of Hiking & History which may put participants in danger. Participants must always accept the guide’s decisions. The participant must inform about any ailments he/she may suffer (allergies or heart conditions) before booking any activity. Activities will be guided by a qualified sports professional

Winter season
On high mountain routes between November and April, it is an obligatory condition to hire a mountain guide to accompany you. In this case you must plan to carry the necessary equipment for winter conditions.

Insurance
In order to book your holidays, you must take out a personal insurance policy for you and all the members of the group to cover injuries, illness, belongings and cancellations. Please make sure your policy covers all the risks associated with hiking in a natural environment.

Liabilities
Hiking & History is not liable for injuries or bad health that may affect you or the members of your group during your holidays. Hiking & History will only be liable for loss or damages caused by negligence or omissions by Hiking & History.

Force majeure
We shall not be liable for loss, damage or costs in case of war, terrorist attacks, real or threatened, riots, industrial activities, possible bad weather, flood, drought, natural or nuclear disasters or any other event beyond the control of Hiking & History which forces us to delay, shorten or extend your holiday.

Privacy policy
We respect your privacy and we only pass on your personal information if it is necessary for the development of your holidays. For example, we will give your names to book accommodation and other services. We never sell your information to third parties.
