Climbing Canigo Peak

Pedro III of Aragón and the sacred mountain of the Catalans (guided tour)

In collaboration with:

Place

Eastern Pyrenees between the counties of Alt Vallespir and Comflent

Description

Ascent via the Barbet ridge to the Barbet peak (2,733 m) and the Canigó summit (2,785 m), and descent via the Jofre peak. We’ll enjoy the ascent of two of the most famous peaks in the Canigó massif and we’ll do it in a different way, between rocks, fragrances and sea views, we’ll stop to listen to poems written at the time of the rebirth of Catalan culture in the 19th century as the poets marvelled at the same landscapes as we are seeing. We’ll hear the story of the experience of king Peter III of Aragon, the first person to climb to the highest point on the Canigó massif, in 1285, and we’ll take away a souvenir of an experience rich in symbolism and spirituality.
